Legal solutions for innovators and other smart people

About us

Who we are

Jacobson Attorneys commenced practice as a general commercial law firm. The emergence of social networking and the Social Web in general revealed the necessity for a law firm that focusses on the law that applies to this dynamic and revolutionary environment.

In 2007 Jacobson Attorneys shifted its focus to new media law and to the body of law which deals with the issues arising out of the Social Web. We focus on four primary themes, namely:

  • content licensing;
  • privacy and protection of personal information;
  • unlawful competition; and
  • freedom of expression and defamation.

As a niche new media law firm, Jacobson Attorneys has a particular understanding and appreciation of the emerging products and services available on the social Web. We use many of these products and services every day in order to provide our services to our clients and to engage with the broader online community. Our offices are located in suburban Highlands North:

Why you should use us

At Jacobson Attorneys we believe strongly in giving you more value for your money. We don't just pay lip service to this goal, we have entrenched it in our fee model which you can read more about in our terms of appointment. While we retain the traditional billable hour model for our few clients who prefer it, we recommend that our clients either consider our fixed fee or retainer fee options which are highly customisable having regard to a number of factors unique to your requirements.

When you brief us you will not find your file being passed to junior lawyers to be dealt with at some unspecified time in the future. Here the person you brief is the person who takes responsibility for getting the job done properly and when you need it. Because of our emphasis on adding value to the work we do, we use the most appropriate tools to do the work as efficiently as we can. Our computers are more than glorified paper weights. We use them and this is why you will find multiple ways of engaging with us digitally.

What do our clients say?

Our clients' opinions matter to us and we believe their satisfaction with the work we do for them speaks for itself.

With rapidly advancing technological and functional capabilities, Zoopy recently had to bring its Terms of Use in line with everything we're offering our users, and all the possibilities and limitations at their disposal.

Because our users share most of their content publicly, there are some very serious licensing and ownership issues (amongst others) that need to be addressed in language that is easy for our users to understand, while
retaining the legal strength required to be actionable when necessary.

Paul's specialist new media experience meant that he was instantly able to bring compelling insight to the table, helping us to turn a complex landscape of electronic rights into a logical document that is fair to all parties and perfectly up to date with current online legislation.

We couldn't be more pleased with the final result. Paul's approach has been enquiring, innovative and comprehensive, going way beyond what we had initially expected. We can now move forward safe in the knowledge that we have the legal foundation we need to grow safely and confidently into the future.

As an online and mobile social media community, Zoopy operates in a global tech space that is constantly growing, adapting and leapfrogging. As we continue to push the envelope in the front-end and back-end of our business, we can’t ever afford to do so without having our legal bases comprehensively thought through. Using Jacobson’s Attorneys is an absolute no-brainer for us. They have consistently proved their unique ability to apply an extremely solid legal knowledge within the context of an ever-changing world of technology, giving us complete security and peace-of-mind. We would highly recommend them to any organisation looking for sharp thinking, quick turnaround and iron-clad legal advice.

Laurence Kay, a Digital Media Lawyer in the United Kingdom, published a set of useful rules or guidelines for choosing the right digital media lawyer. We agree with Laurence's list and we think you should consider these guidelines when deciding which new media lawyers will be the right ones for you:
